Abstract
Tasarım disiplinlerinde kullanılan mevcut yöntemler içinde en çok tercih edilen tasarım odaklı düşünme, fikir üretmek ve geliştirmek üzerine kurgulanmış çoklu basamaklardan oluşan döngüsel bir yaklaşımdır. Bu çalışmanın odak noktasını oluşturan zihin haritaları tasarım odaklı düşünme tekniğinin ilk basamağında yer alan fikir geliştirme sürecinde kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın amacı 2021-2022 eğitim döneminde sunum tasarımı dersini alan görsel iletişim tasarımı bölümü ikinci sınıf üniversite öğrencilerinin tasarım fikri geliştirme süreçlerinde zihin haritası kullanmanın etkisini ortaya koymaktır. Araştırmada betimsel yöntem kullanılmış ve gözlem ile desteklenmiştir. Harita geliştirme süresinde arka plan araştırmaları zenginleştirilerek öğrencilerin farkındalıkları artırılmaya çalışılmıştır. Zihin haritalarında görsel metaforlar kullanma ve konuya uygun tipografik düzenleme ölçüt olarak belirlenmiş, bu doğrultuda haritalar geliştirilmiştir. Çalışmanın bulguları zihin haritalama tekniğinin araştırmaya katılan öğrenciler tarafından daha önceden bilinmediğini ve herhangi bir alanda kullanılmadığını ortaya koymuştur. Sonuç olarak zihin haritalarının üniversite öğrencilerinin fikir geliştirme süreçlerinin verimini artırdığı, fikirlerini görselleştirmenin başkaları tarafından anlaşılmalarını kolaylaştırdığı ve proje sunumlarında kendilerini ifade edebilme yetilerini artırdığı tespit edilmiştir.

Abstract
Among the current methods used in design disciplines, the most preferred design thinking is a cyclical approach consisting of multiple steps built on generating and developing ideas. Mind maps, which form the focus of this study, were used in the idea development process, which is in the first step of the design thinking technique. The aim of the research is to reveal the effect of using mind maps in the design idea development process of second year university students of visual communication design who took the presentation design course in the 2021-2022 academic year. The descriptive method was used in the research and it was supported by observation. During the map development process, it was tried to increase the awareness of the students by enriching the background research. Using visual metaphors in mind maps and typographic arrangement suitable for the subject were determined as criteria, and maps were developed in this direction. The findings of the study revealed that the mind mapping technique was not previously known by the students participating in the research and was not used in any field. As a result, it has been determined that mind maps increase the efficiency of university students' idea development processes, visualizing their ideas makes it easier for others to understand and increase their ability to express themselves in project presentations.
