Abstract

Abstract

Culture, which is a process in which all material and moral characteristics are transferred from generation to generation, is transferred to individuals by the smallest unit of society, the family. While the attitudes and behaviors of the parents vary according to the culture, the attitudes and behaviors of the children are shaped as an outcome of this. Culture, which is an important factor affecting friendship relations, becomes even more important with orientation to peers, which is a developmental task of adolescence. For this reason, the research was conducted to reveal the similarities and differences in the friendship relations of adolescents who grew up in five different Asian cultures. According to the findings of the study, the definitions of friendship, friend preferences, friendship closeness, and friendship relationships with the opposite sex of adolescents from various cultures differ, but they also share some similarities. In order to reveal these differences and similarities, mixed-pattern studies can be carried out with adolescents raised in different cultures in future studies.
