Abstract

Abstract

Phosphate mining areas in the world and in Turkey is an important place within the critical raw materials. Phosphate mineral, which is the raw material of fertilizer production, has a strategic importance among industrial minerals in terms of combating hunger and increasing plant yield depending on the population increase. Mardin where the phosphate mineral found in Turkey is the most intense Mazıdağı district of the province. The entire proximal portion generated and imported from Turkey phosphate is used in the fertilizer industry. Phosphate consumption has increased due to the lack of any substance to replace phosphate in fertilizer consumption in both the country and the region, and the increase in irrigable agricultural lands in the region, especially with the Southeastern Anatolia Project (GAP). Therefore, the importance of Phosphate mine has increased even more. The study is to examine the view of the local people to the Mazıdağı phosphate enterprises, which became idle after 1994 and re-opened with privatization after 2011, on a socio-economic, cultural and environmental basis; It was made in order to put forward suggestions for possible future plans in the region. For this reason, a questionnaire prepared by the researcher was carried out in order to reveal the opinions of the people living in the district center. Using the SPSS program, the survey data were analyzed and tables were created. In addition, maps showing the location, topography and geology of the region were produced with the ArcMap 10.4 package program. It has been determined that the participants have a positive approach regarding the re-opened facilities in the region. It is thought that the phosphate operation that has been put into operation in the region will make a great contribution to the development of the region as well as the unemployment problem in Mazıdağı.
