Abstract
Bireysel kimlik meselesinde toplum, sosyal yaşamda çağdaşlaşmaya ve bilimsel gelişmelere rağmen, bugün halen belirlenen normlar dışında kalanları “öteki” olarak ayrıştırmaktadır. “Öteki” ve “Aynı” kavramları davranış bozukluğunun yanı sıra görünüşte sıra dışı olma ile ilişkilendirilmiştir. Normal fizyolojisinin dışındaki insan bedenine sahip olan kişi, bir hastalığa yakalanmış gibi muamele görmektedir. Bireysel kimlik meselesi, günlük yaşantı içinde insanlar arasında yapılan hiyerarşikleştirme ve ötekileştirme ile günümüz sanatının içinde önemli bir yer tutmaktadır. Bu konu, sanatçının da ilgisini çekmiş ve sanatçının algısında gelişerek ortaya çıkardığı eserleriyle toplumda tabuları yıkmıştır. Amerikalı fotoğrafçı Diane Arbus, cüceler, eşcinseller, fahişeler, çirkinler, şişmanlar, yaralılar, travestiler, sakatlar, ucubeler, deliler, down sendromlular gibi alt kimlik sahibi modellerinin yanı sıra sirkler, çıplaklar kampı, parklar, akıl hastaneleri, ucuz otel odaları gibi sıradan tematik konularla günlük yaşamın yalın gerçekliğini gözler önüne sermiştir. İlgi çekici modeller ve konular kullanan Arbus, bu özelliği nedeni ile gazete-magazin fotoğrafçısı gibi algılansa da sanat tarihinin önemli ustaları gibi eserlerinde görselliği ön plana çıkaran kompozisyonlarını sanat eseri kurgusu ile inşa eden bir sanatçıdır.

Abstract
In the matter of individual identity, despite of modernization and scientific developments in social life, today the society still separates the elements which are out of the norms as “the other”. The concepts of “the other” and ”the same" have been associated with behavior disorder as well as apparently/visibly unusual. The person who has human body with an abnormal physiology is treated as if it has caught a disease. The issue of individual identity occupies an important place in today's art with the hierarchicalization and otherization of people in daily life. This issue also has attracted the attention of the artist and destroys the taboos with the artworks developing in her perception. American photographer Diane Arbus has revealed simple reality of everyday life with ordinary thematic issues such as circuses, nudist camps, parks, mental hospitals, cheap hotel rooms In addition to her models with sub-identity such as dwarves, homosexuals, prostitutes, ugly, fat, wounded, transvestites, cripples, freaks, madmen, down syndrome people. Although Arbus is perceived as a newspaper-magazine photographer because of using interesting models and subjects, she is an artist who builds her compositions that emphasize visuality with an artwork touch like the important masters of art history.
