Abstract

Abstract

Deontic justice manifests itself in all educational activities, including the relationships teachers establish with students, evaluation processes, and classroom management. By adopting deontic justice, teachers ensure that students feel safe, respected, and valued. This increases students' learning motivation and creates a positive atmosphere in the educational environment. The aim of this study is to examine the understanding of deontic justice among middle school teachers according to demographic variables. The data obtained within the scope of the study were examined according to the variables of gender, age, marital status, seniority, and the number of students in the schools where the teachers work. The sample of the research consists of 307 (180 female - 127 male) teachers working in middle schools in the city center of Sivas during the 2023-2024 academic year. The "Deontic Justice Scale," developed by Beugre (2012) and adapted into Turkish by Akın et al. (2013), was used to obtain the research data. The obtained data were transferred to the SPSS program, and normality values and percentage and frequency distributions of demographic variables were examined first. Since the normality assumption was considered to be met, independent groups t-test, one-way ANOVA test, Tukey test, and Pearson correlation tests were applied to the data as parametric tests. Differences were observed in the findings regarding the relationship between teachers' educational beliefs and deontic justice according to demographic variables. Specifically, teachers in the 41-50 age group received the highest score on the scale, while those in the 20-30 age group received the lowest score. This data may indicate that teachers in the 41-50 age group have a stronger understanding of deontic justice.
