Faik Sabri Duran has been one of the pioneers who played a major role in the development and advancement of the science of geography in our country. Duran who took lessons from important geography instructors in France where he went for university education wrote books appealing to all segments of society and gave lessons and public lectures in schools. Thus, he introduced and ingratiated geography not only to students but also to the public. Duran, who travelled many times from an early age, understood the importance of learning by seeing thanks to his trips and introduced the social, cultural, economic and geographical structures of various regions to the people who could not find this opportunity by including visual elements in his books. Therefore, instead of showing a place in the map with a plain instruction and giving the names by heart, he ensured that the narrations come to life in the minds of the readers. Herewith, Faik Sabri Duran became one of the important names in our country who contributed understanding of descriptive geography to gain ground instead of name geography. In this study, it was aimed to introduce briefly Faik Sabri Duran, one of the founders of modern geography in Turkey, and give information about his travel writings which were written according to his understanding of descriptive geography especially his work titled A Turkish Girl's Journey to America.
