Since ancient times, poets have given woman a high status and great importance in their poetry, have talked about her effective roles in life, and depicted her feelings and beauty. Arab literature flourishes with beautiful artistic pictures that describe women, their characteristics, and their status. This paper deals with the issue of the representation of women in the poetic discourse of the contemporary poets: NizarQabbani and Mahmoud Darwish. It also studies the differences in their perception of women and what they represent for them in their methods of presenting women as a mother, a lover (beloved), as a subject of life, or as a symbol the poets use to represent issues of land and the homeland.
