Abstract


THE EFFECT OF DEMOGRAPHIC FEATURES OF HOTEL BUSINESS EMPLOYEES ON CONFLICT MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES

The concept of conflict is a common occurrence in both social life and business life, which continues from the past to the present and is inevitable in our future. In order to bring themselves to a sustainable state, organizations either try to minimize and control the conflicts within the organization or try to increase efficiency by exacerbating these conflicts. In both cases, the aim is to take the life of the organization to the next level. Whether it is right or wrong in both cases is determined by evaluating many situations, especially the market and competition conditions of the enterprises. The main issue that is important for organizations is whether the experienced conflicts are approached with the correct and effective conflict strategy. The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of demographic characteristics of hotel business employees on the conflict management strategy used. In line with this purpose, data were collected from 480 employees working in 5-star accommodation establishments operating in Ankara, using a survey technique. As a result of the research, it was found that the most frequently used conflict management strategy by hotel employees participating in the study was the constructive strategy, and the least used strategy was the coercive strategy. It has been determined that the level of using constructive strategy of the employees varies according to their gender and their level of using the compromise strategy differ according to their education level. Employees' level of using the compelling strategy varies according to the length of time they work in the workplace and the number of employees in the department they work in.
