Abstract


ANALYZING EMERGENT LITERACY ACTIVITY PLANS OF PRESCHOOL EDUCATION

The purpose of this study was to analyze early literacy activity plans applied in early childhood education. Activity plans were examined to determine their sufficiency for early childhood education. This research is a scanning model descriptive study. The sample was one hundred and twenty early literacy activity plans randomly selected from preschools and kindergartens. Activity plans were analyzed using document analysis method. The emergent literacy activity plan evaluation form was used as a data collection tool. Findings are given with frequencies, percentages and quantitative range value scores. The educational qualifications of the emergent literacy activities were found to be inadequate in the sub-dimensions of visual perception/manual skills, listening and speaking skills, and attention and memory skills. It was proposed that qualitative methods should be used to investigate the causes of the problems identified in this research.
