In our day and age, rapid developments in information and technology directly affects students. The effective applications presented by web technologies specifically cause the cognitive absorption in students. Cognitive absorption can be defined as the state of happiness of the individual’s in technological environments, stays in the environment for a long time without being aware of the time and concentrates and attaches all his/her attention to that environment. Technology is an important factor in our lives to affect every individual. From pre-school to higher education levels, students, teachers, management, families are affected by technology. When we take the state of students interacting deeply with the applications of web technologies into consideration, it is hoped that determining the relationship between the students and web technologies will contribute new insights to the related fields. This research aims to analyze the cognitive absorption in students concerning web technologies. The research was conducted with survey model. The research was carried out with the participation of 89 first-year state college students consisting of 62 students with pre-school education and 27 students with computer education and instructional technologies majors. “Cognitive absorption scale” was used in this study as a data acquisition method. Arithmetic mean, standard deviation and t-tests were applied to analyze the results. As a result of this study, it was found that the cognitive absorption was at the highest level on pleasure and time subscales. It was also found that cognitive absorption did not show any correlation with gender, field of study or the Internet connection period. It is suggested to investigate the relationship between cognitive absorption and success, motivation, quitting education and anti-socialism in future studies.
