The Effect of Measurement and Evaluation Course on the Pre-service Teachers’ Attitudes towards Measurement and Evaluation in Education

The purpose of the study is to investigate the effect of measurement and evaluation course on the pre-service teachers’ attitudes towards measurement and evaluation in education. Totally 93 (51 female and 42 male) pre-service teachers constitute the sample of the research on a voluntary basis. The research design of the study was experimental type that included one group pre-test and post-test model. In the research, the Demographical Information Form and Attitude toward Educational Measurement Inventory (31 items and three sub factors) were used as tools for collecting data. SPSS were used for the analysis of the data. Data analysis involved calculation of descriptive statistics (mean, standard deviation, min, max, frequency and percentile), ANOVA, independent and paired samples t-test, Bonferroni and Tukey HSD tests, Cohens’ d and eta squared analysis (p<0,05). At the end of this research, it was determined that pre-service teachers’ level of attitude towards measurement and evaluation in education changed positively after they took courses. And according to effect size analysis, the attitudes of pre-service teachers toward measurement and evaluation in education course were affected strongly by gender and teaching program types (normal class) variables. These results, which are reached as a result of the research, are discussed in the frame of the related literature.
