Group Envıronment And Empathy Level Of Football And Volleyball Players

The success in team sports is directly proportional to the group environment and empathy level. Acting together, team spirit, positive relations, feeling of belonging to the team, effective communication and acting devotedly ensure group environment of the athletes, and trying to look at events from the point of view of one another and putting themselves in the position of the other makes it possible for the team members to empathize. The aim of this research is to examine the group environment and empathy levels of the team athletes playing football and volleyball. In the study, relational survey design from quantitative research models was used. 291 athletes (football = 186, volleyball = 105) taking part in the leagues of the Turkey Football Federation and the Turkey Volleyball Federation during the 2017-2018 season participated in the research. In this research, "Group Environment Scale" and "Empathy Level Determination Scale" were used as data collection tools. Data were tested for normality and Skewness-Kurtosis values were found to be in the range of + -1. In this context, frequency, arithmetic mean, standard deviation, t-test for independent samples, one-way variance analysis (ANOVA) and Post-Hoc test statistics (Tukey HSD) were used in the analysis of data. A significant relationship was found between the sub-dimensions of Empathy Level Determination Scale and Group Environment Scale. According to the variables of gender, branch and team achievement perception, there was no significant difference between the group environment and empathy levels of the participants. There is a significant difference between the participants' marital status variable and empathy level's sub-dimensions of Emotional Response and Cognitive Empathy. Between the sports history of participants and the Group Environment Scale and the participants, the sub-dimensions of Social Integration of the Group and the Task Attractiveness of the Group indicate a statistically significant difference; and according to the educational status, the sub-dimensions of Social Integration of the Group and Integration of Group in Task showed a statistically significant difference.
