Abstract
Faik Sabri Duran, ülkemizde coğrafya biliminin gelişmesinde ve ilerlemesinde büyük rol oynayan öncü isimlerden biridir. Üniversite eğitimi için gittiği Fransa’da önemli coğrafya hocalarından dersler alan Duran, her kesime hitap eden kitaplar kaleme almış, okullarda çeşitli dersler ve halka açık konferanslar vermiştir. Böylelikle coğrafyayı yalnız öğrencilere değil halka da tanıtıp sevdirmiştir. Küçük yaşlardan itibaren birçok seyahate giden Duran, bu sayede görerek öğrenmenin önemini kavramış kitaplarında da görsel unsurlara fazlasıyla yer vererek bu imkânı bulamayan insanlara çeşitli bölgelerin sosyal, kültürel, ekonomik ve coğrafi yapılarını tanıtmıştır. Dolayısıyla kuru bir anlatım ile haritadan yer göstermek ve öğrenciye ezbere isim saydırmak yerine anlatılanların okuyucunun zihninde canlanmasını sağlamaya çalışmıştır. Faik Sabri Duran, böylelikle ülkemizde isim coğrafyası yerine tasviri coğrafya anlayışının yer edinmesine katkı sağlayan önemli isimlerden biri olmuştur. Bu çalışmada Türkiye’de modern coğrafyanın kurucularından Faik Sabri Duran’ı kısaca tanıtmak ve onun tasviri coğrafya anlayışına uygun olarak kaleme aldığı gezi yazıları, bilhassa Bir Türk Kızının Amerika Yolculuğu adlı eseri hakkında bilgi vermek amaçlanmıştır.

Abstract
Faik Sabri Duran has been one of the pioneers who played a major role in the development and advancement of the science of geography in our country. Duran who took lessons from important geography instructors in France where he went for university education wrote books appealing to all segments of society and gave lessons and public lectures in schools. Thus, he introduced and ingratiated geography not only to students but also to the public. Duran, who travelled many times from an early age, understood the importance of learning by seeing thanks to his trips and introduced the social, cultural, economic and geographical structures of various regions to the people who could not find this opportunity by including visual elements in his books. Therefore, instead of showing a place in the map with a plain instruction and giving the names by heart, he ensured that the narrations come to life in the minds of the readers. Herewith, Faik Sabri Duran became one of the important names in our country who contributed understanding of descriptive geography to gain ground instead of name geography. In this study, it was aimed to introduce briefly Faik Sabri Duran, one of the founders of modern geography in Turkey, and give information about his travel writings which were written according to his understanding of descriptive geography especially his work titled A Turkish Girl's Journey to America.
